Somerset
Visiting beautiful Exmoor with the Zoom H6 (No mics were eaten luckily)
Just had a great time visiting Somerset, a place I spent a lot of time when growing up, so it was lovely to go back again with my family - especially my daughter. It really is one of the prettiest places in England.
I managed to sneak away and get some nice sounds with my handy Zoom H6, it's hard to say to everyone 'bye I'm off to sit in the middle of a field in silence for a bit' they think I'm a bit mad, but it's worth it most of the time.
Despite it being very windy I got some pretty good sounds, the highlights for me other than a lot of country birds were the very friendly horses I met who snorted and ate noisily (I had to be careful as they were eyeing up the mic shield as a tasty snack) and some lovely squelchy poppy seaweed at the beach! There was also a great abandoned barn that I recorded some nice footsteps in. It had a mix of cobbles, dirt and leaves and a nice dead ambience.
I cleaned up the wind and other artifacts using Izotope Spectral repair and a bit of deconstruct along with Acons suite of plug-ins (mainly De-Wind, De-Plosive and De-Bird) and I'm pretty happy with the results.
