Field Recording
Sound Design
Just had a lovely time visiting Somerset, a place I spent a lot of time when growing up, so it was great to go back again with my family - especially my daughter.
I managed to sneak away and get some sounds with my handy Zoom H6. It's hard to say to everyone 'bye I'm off to sit in the middle of a field in silence for a bit' they think I'm a bit mad, but it's worth it most of the time. Despite it being very windy I got some pretty good sounds, the highlights for me (other than a lot of country birds) were the very friendly horses I met who snorted and ate noisily and some lovely squelchy poppy seaweed at the beach! There was also a great abandoned barn that I recorded some nice footsteps in. It had a mix of cobbles, dirt and leaves and had a nice dead ambience.
I cleaned up the wind and other artifacts using Izotope Spectral repair and a bit of deconstruct along with Acons suite of plug-ins (mainly De-Wind, De-Plosive and De-Bird) and I'm pretty happy with the results.
